This course is foundational to the student’s musical experience and understanding. The student will receive instruction in music fundamentals including: notation, major and minor keys, scales, intervals, chords, rhythm, ear training, figured bass, and part writing. BASIC CHURCH MUSIC
Students are given a basic working knowledge of music fundamentals. They are taught to be aware of the place, principles, and practice of music in the church, while developing a working Biblical philosophy of church music. Back to Top
The college choir prepares songs for special music at Landmark Baptist Church each Wednesday evening. Students sharpen sight reading, communication, and choral singing skills while praising the Lord in song. This choir also performs a wide selection of vocal literature and performs for various occasions and choral concerts. Everyone is welcome to try out for the choir. Students enrolled in this class for credit are required to be at all performances. Back to Top

MUSIC HISTORY
This course is a survey of the major composers, their literature, and musical forms from past to present. The student will also learn from the master’s of past and present sacred music. They will study the lives of composers, instructors, directors, and performers of both classical and sacred music. Back to Top
Instrumentation is a general study of all the instruments necessary to make up an orchestra, including: strings, brass, woodwinds, percussions, and flute. A working knowledge of each instrument and light instruction in playing each instrument will be given in class. Back to Top

CONDUCTING
This course starts with the basic patterns and techniques for choral conducting and continues through instrumental conducting techniques. Students are given basic instruction and some practical experience in conducting choirs, ensembles, and orchestras.Back to Top
This course covers the structure and form of music from early to more recent times. Students will learn vocal and instrumental arranging techniques for choir and orchestra. There will be an emphasis on originality in composition while maintaining fundamental standards. Back to Top
